The Art of Banksy, the world’s largest traveling exhibition of real Banksy artworks, will debut in Boston this winter.
The Art of Banksy is a one-of-a-kind exhibition for Banksy enthusiasts, travelers, and aficionados. The show will take place in a yet-to-be-disclosed location and will house more than 100 original works from private collectors across the world. It will be an opportunity to see authenticated and certified Banksy originals, which are rarely seen in public.
The show will feature pieces appropriated from Banksy’s most iconic works, including “Balloon Girl,” “Slave Labour,” and the world-famous “Girl With Balloon.” Other highlights include street art installations, stencils, sculptures, and multimedia exhibits.
Banksy is one of the most celebrated street artists in the world, but remains anonymous. Their identity has never been confirmed by anyone outside of a small circle of friends and family.
Banksy is highly regarded for their social and political commentary, which often includes thought-provoking twists. Banksy’s art often features striking imagery juxtaposed with captions that undercut the scene’s significance without offering any overt comment on the subject matter.
The show is set to debut on Thursday, Feb. 17, and general admission tickets will go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. on BanksyExhibit.com Wednesday.
The Art of Banksy is not curated or authorized by the artist, but rather derives from private collections, allowing people to view pieces that might otherwise be kept private in homes or warehouses.
The exhibit includes a number of Banksy’s most recognized works, including “Flower Thrower,” “Rude Copper,” and unique versions of the notorious “Girl with Balloon,” which was shredded at auction in 2018 and sold for a world-record $21.8 million in London last month.
The artwork on display includes canvases, screen prints, sculptures, one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces dating from 1997 to 2008, a period during which Banksy created his most famous works.
Banksy, the most closely guarded secret in the art world, is an enigmatic artist and internationally renowned political activist.
Banksy’s distinctive graffiti-inspired stencil technique, which is frequently coupled with anti-establishment sentiments, is instantly recognizable and never fails to arouse interest. Banksy’s works can be found on city walls, bridges, and roads all over the world, but The Art of Banksy gives you a unique chance to get up close with a diverse range of Banksy’s works in a private setting.
Banksy’s authentication body, Pest Control, has previously verified past original pieces from collections. When the piece is not certified, it is compared to known pictures that are available on the internet or provided by reputable dealers who have sold the work to the collector.
