No matter where you go, festivals are unique! Even if they are only a few towns apart, the atmosphere, music, vibe, theme, and specialty of each would be completely different. This is why I adore them! For the past ten years or so, I’ve been to festivals all over the world, and while I’m much more familiar with the US festival scene, I’ve had a chance to attend a few of New Zealand’s. It’s worth considering that New Zealand festivals are a kind of their own, and I can confidently say that they are quite distinct from those in the United States.
The Weather in New Zealand
In New Zealand, the weather is perfect and dependable. The north island is referred to as the winterless north. I’ve done a couple of festivals in northern New Zealand, and both times, I was able to enjoy wonderfully hot, sunny weather for the entire festival weekend!
The Vibes
In New Zealand, a festival is a very laid-back and casual experience. They aren’t nearly as obnoxious (from what I’ve seen and experienced) when it comes to clothing and festival fashion. It’s all about being comfortable and having a good time! The folks there are also really friendly. I’ve met a lot of great individuals at New Zealand Festivals, but that may also be said for nearly every festival I’ve ever attended… festivals are an excellent method to meet and interact with new people!
The Music
At a New Zealand festival, the music is also considerably different from what you’d hear at a United States event. Sure, there are various music festivals and stages all over the world that feature performers who are comparable to those in the United States, such as global superstars like Wilkinson, Martin Garrix or The Killers — they’re just GLOBAL superstars and so they’re quite similar at any event on earth. The majority of the world’s best known bands are booked to appear at New Zealand’s biggest music festivals, but what sets them apart from other large events is all of the additional stuff that the event has to offer—scenery, stages, atmosphere, and so on.
When it comes to music, New Zealand festivals have something unique to offer. I’ve seen some fantastic artists that I wouldn’t have been able to see otherwise. From the bands to the artists, there are an abundance of local musicians and performers at New Zealand festivals, which I feel US festivals should encourage and highlight more frequently!
The Setting
The breathtaking scenery of a kiwi festival is one of the main reasons I enjoy attending them. Everyone has seen the Instagram-worthy and genuinely stunning scenery in New Zealand, so think about hosting a festival with that as the background? Mountains, rolling hills, and vast uninhabited countryside provide a welcome change from the urban or Desert festivals that the United States has to offer.
Ticket Prices
In New Zealand, tickets are also reasonably cheap! Apart from a few exceptions, most festivals are far less expensive than the ones I’ve been to in the United States. The trip to a festival in New Zealand is more difficult. Unlike the ease of public transportation or a short drive in the United States, getting to a festival in New Zealand necessitates either flying or driving, and depending on the location, this may be quite some distance. In general, tickets to festivals and concerts in New Zealand are far more reasonably priced than those in the United States – perhaps due to the fact that long trip possibilities turn people off.
So, What do you think? Will you be visiting New Zeland for your next music festival?
