The missing girl who vanished from a campsite in Australia has been discovered alive in a locked house near to her home.

on

Police in Western Australia, after breaking down the door of a locked house in the rural town of Carnarvon, ended an 18-day search for a vanished 4-year-old girl early Wednesday morning.

The officer picked up the youngster and asked, “What’s your name?” The girl responded, according to police, “My name is Cleo.”

Cleo Smith went missing from her family’s tent at a remote campsite at Quobba Blowholes, a popular tourist attraction on the coast, around 590 miles north of Perth more than two weeks ago.

The girl’s disappearance prompted the exchange of dozens of photos and news reports over many square kilometers around the area, later expanding across the country as sightings of her were reported.

On Wednesday, police said that evidence had led them to that particular home, a short drive from her family home where her worried parents had anxiously awaited news about the investigation.

“We were seeking for a needle in a haystack, and we found it, which ultimately led to what occurred at 12:46 this morning,” Col Blanch said.

The officers arrived at the closed home and discovered Cleo alone in one of the rooms, according to Blanch. “When she said, ‘My name is Cleo,’ I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house,” he continued.

“I’ve seen seasoned cops weep with relief. I’m at a loss for words, which is rather unusual for me… This was something we all longed for, and it has now come true,” he added.

“Our family is whole again,” Cleo’s mother, Ellie Smith, wrote on Instagram. “Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers.”

A 36-year-old resident of Western Australia who had “no relatives connection” was taken into custody, according to WA Police Commissioner Chris Dawson. He wasn’t in the house during the assault, Blanch stated, and is now being questioned. They don’t think anyone else was involved.

Cleo vanished from the family’s tent at a campsite near the Blowholes, about 30 miles north of Carnarvon, in the early hours of October 16.

On their first camping trip as a family of four, they’d arrived the night before. Around 8 p.m., Cleo relaxed for the night in a sleeping bag next to her mother, stepfather, and newborn sister, according to police.

Cleo had awoken at 1:30 a.m., wanting a drink of water, and then gone back to sleep, according to Smith. When Smith got up at 6 a.m., Cleo was not there.

The narrow road leading to the campsite was blocked by police cars and emergency vehicles. A short walk from the coast, where waves smash against the cliffs, helicopters and drones scoured the rugged countryside near the campsite, which was a few kilometers from the ocean.

The search for the child, carried out by a team from Coral Coast Helicopter Services, lasted three days. He referred to the sandy hills as sluggish-moving terrain, which made walking laborious: “It’s soft sand and prickle-covered.”

“When we didn’t locate her within the first hour or two, we were certain that she had been kidnapped,” Borg added.

Meanwhile, the tent’s zip was so high that authorities inferred Cleo had been kidnapped. They also discovered Cleo’s sleeping bag missing.

The mother of John Smith and her spouse, Jake Gliddon, asked for assistance in locating their youngster.

“We get asked all the time what you need,” Smith said. “All we really need is for our little girl to be home again.”

“She wants to wear a princess dress every day,” she added. “She’s adorable; she’s the ideal little girl.”

Reward

The Western Australia government announced a reward of 1 million Australian dollars ($750,000) for information leading to Cleo’s discovery less than one week after the search began.

Information poured in, including more than 200 reports of possible sightings of the girl, none of which were verified to be Cleo. Hours of CCTV and dashcam video were published on the police website for analysis.

Meanwhile, a huge internet campaign was getting underway to locate Cleo. If it was my youngster, I’d want someone to do the same thing.

Bring Cleo Smith Home volunteers launched a Facebook campaign to request stickers, flyers, and posters with Cleo’s image. Around 50,000 were produced and distributed throughout Carnarvon and across the state.

A mother in Perth, Australia, named Evelyn Fowkes started the Facebook group to relieve Cleo’s mother of the burden of receiving numerous messages. By the end of March, Fowkes had recruited a team of volunteer administrators and moderators, the majority of whom were mothers. They worked to keep the case public and relevant, as many missing persons cases go forgotten.

The site has grown to 65,000 members worldwide, including in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe.

“We’re just in shock, so many tears of joy. And I believe Australia is crying with us,” said Ashleigh Flynn, who served as a volunteer administrator from Brisbane on the other side of the country.

The investigation

During the search, police said they had no suspects and denied that Cleo’s family was involved in her disappearance on numerous occasions.

Witnesses claimed seeing a vehicle traveling south on the main road from the campsite to Carnarvon at about 3 a.m. on the day Cleo vanished as one of the few leads. Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the driver or passengers of the vehicle. Police hadn’t said whether they had located that car as of Tuesday.

Police have been sifting through bags of trash from roadside bins north and south of the campsite where Cleo vanished, in order to establish a timeline for her abduction. The lawmen then relocated to the Carnarvon area, where they began visiting homes in search of information about the youngster.

The West Australian Police Minister Paul Papalia claimed that Cleo’s rescue was the result of “a long and hard police grind” rather than a tip-off or a single suspicious occurrence.

Over the course of 18 days, authorities amassed a large quantity of data, including interviews, CCTV video, phone records, and 1,000 tips from individuals offering information that were subsequently investigated.

One of four police detectives who raided a single-story home with a search warrant just before 1:00 a.m. today was Senior Sergeant Blaine, who discovered Cleo in a bedroom.

“To observe her sitting in that manner was remarkable,” Blaine said.

“I wanted to make sure it was her, so I asked ‘What is your name?'” he added.

They were using public backing and the pressure they were generating through the media to put pressure on individuals or maybe someone close to the offender who might have knowledge. They used it as leverage.

There was a lot of interest in the case, and police had to deal with a lot of false leads. It is very unlikely that anybody will claim the reward since Cleo’s rescue was owing to meticulous work by the cops.

Last night, in the middle of the night, Western Australian Premier Mark McGowan got a call from the state’s police commissioner informing him that Cleo had been discovered. He also shared an image of Cleo sitting in a hospital bed, smiling.

“This is fantastic news for the country and people all across it, particularly those who spent their time and effort looking for little Cleo,” she added. “I’m sure they’re bursting with pride and happiness.”

The discovery of the four-year-old girl, named Cleo Smith, was greeted with delight by Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on his personal Twitter feed. “What wonderful, relieving news,” he wrote. “Cleo Smith has been discovered and is safe and sound at home. Our prayers have been answered; thank you to all of the police who worked tirelessly to find Cleo and help her family.”

Mrs. Blaine was outside for approximately 10 minutes before police found her, and she subsequently stated that she had repeatedly asked Mr. Blaine the same question three times before responding, and that once they’d located Cleo, cops took her outside to their car and called her parents. The officer who told them Cleo would be discovered announced: “We’ve got someone here who wants to talk with you.”

“It was a great feeling to be able to make that phone call,” Blaine said.

Xanthe Mallett, a criminologist at the University of Newcastle in New South Wales, called Cleo’s recovery after so long “miraculous” and stated that the chances of discovering a missing kid following a suspected abduction by a stranger were “extremely slim.”

When a youngster vanishes, everyone assumes the worst, and this is truly wonderful news.

Western Australia Police have been able to track Cleo for a number of weeks, according to the Sunday Times. In an interview on Australian TV network Channel Seven, Mallett said Western Australia Police appeared to be closing in on her earlier this week by releasing only little and seemingly tactical amounts of data to the public.

Vinco Ventures Co-CEO Ted Farnsworth Sets The Record Straight On ‘Hostile Takeover,’ Sends Message To Shareholders

Published

on

*This interview has been condensed for clarity*

Recently-appointed Vinco Ventures co-CEO Ted Farnsworth apologized today to shareholders after “rogue” independent director John Colucci accused the veteran executive of planning a hostile takeover and made a series of false statements in an unauthorized company press release.
Farnsworth via his ZASH Global Media and Entertainment Company created ZVV Media Partners, a joint venture between Zash and Vinco Ventures, and delivered the joint venture’s most prized assets. ZVV Media Partners acquired AdRizer, a leading ad-tech publisher and analytics solution with a focus on revenue attribution, and Lomotif, the rapidly-growing video platform rivaling Tik Tok.
Unhappy with the delays in finalizing the joint venture (Farnsworth feels the independent directors were “dragging their feet”), the 60-year-old financier and entrepreneur was nominated to the role of co-Chief Executive Officer to “shepherd” through the close.
A July 22 8K (SEC EDGAR) filings confirmed Farnsworth was elected as co-CEO of Vinco, Lisa King was elected as President of ZVV, which holds prized assets of ZASH, Lomotif, and AdRizer, and Colucci was voted to step down as an independent director.
On this day, Vinco (BBIG) was trading at $1.10. But now, after Colucci saw the appointment differently and accused Farnsworth of masterminding a so-called hostile takeover, shareholders have seen the stock price implode hitting a 52-week low (0.79) at the close of trading on July 26 (down -55.25% year-to-date).
In an unauthorized company press release issued by Colucci, it claimed a number of executive level officers were fired and made erroneous statements about the company’s finances.
Breaking his silence on the matter, Farnsworth told Feed Layer in an interview: “First of all, let me apologize to the shareholders of Vinco Ventures. I mean, it looks like a circus is going on here.
“This deal has been out there for a year and a half, and I believe the Vinco shareholders have a right to know what’s going on. The delay is just too long.”
According to Farnsworth, Colucci — a 42-year-old with seemingly no public company experience — joined the Vinco board as an independent director to explain data to the other board members. He started in the role around six weeks ago and approximately two weeks in, the board hired one of the top independent legal firms to investigate Colucci’s independence.
“We hired one of the top firms in the country and they came back with serious reservations,” Farnsworth said, claiming Colucci refused to cooperate fully with the independent counsel and so was marked by the law firm as a “negative inference,” and they did not believe he was independent.
“Our corporate counsel sent out a letter to the company saying Colucci needed to step down as independent director immediately because we believe he doesn’t qualify as an independent,” Farnsworth continued, adding he believes Colucci did not disclose certain third-party transactions.
“It’s about the disclosure. The bottom line is it was a lack of disclosure so when our lawyers said to have him step down as independent director and take an administrative leave of absence, instead, he authorizes a press release without required company approvals.
“People might say Colucci can be a very charming guy and I would agree, but smart people see right through that.”
Farnsworth admits he was concerned by Colucci’s disturbing behavior in the build up to the public smear against him, and says he thinks Colucci’s lack of experience in the complex world of public companies, rules of NASDAQ, SEC regulations and laws, is behind the sudden coup attempt.
“Fast-forward to where we are today, John Colucci is not qualified to be an independent director. Especially if he’s claiming to be CEO. He’s sitting here just blocking the company right now from getting work done and damaging shareholder value for the shareholders of Vinco Ventures,” Farnsworth said.
“Then he comes out with this accusation of a ‘thwarted hostile takeover from the Farnsworth Group.’ Well, if you know Wall Street, a hostile takeover is when they come in to buy your company and management doesn’t want you in there. This deal has been out there for a year and a half and it can’t be hostile because I was the one who raised the money and brought in all the assets – Lomotif, AdRizer, etc. – and closed on these. So there’s no way that’s hostile.”
Farnsworth said employees of Vinco started a petition about refusing to work with Colucci.
“The only ones that are suffering here are the Vinco shareholders. That’s really troubling to me where they have a right to know what we’re doing, how it’s going to happen, how we’re closing. I can tell you certain documents have been with the independent directors for the last several months to close these things out. It’s just a game they’re playing and now I’m calling them out on it because the company is owned by the shareholders. It’s not owned by John Colucci.
“When you look at it, it’s really him doing a hostile takeover. This is all about his ego and it really is a power grab.”
In response to the unauthorized press release that Vinco immediately took it down from its investor relations website, Farnsworth said: “John Colucci has run rogue. I’m still co-CEO as long as the shareholders will have me as co-CEO, I’ll be there. The chairman Rob Vanderbilt is still chairman of the company and as long as they keep him there and Lisa King, she’s still a director.”
“We are here for the Vinco shareholders supporting anything they stand for. If anything changes I’ll be the first one to tell them.”

The Real Deal on a Four-Day Workweek

Published

on

For many people, it’s difficult to imagine a work week that doesn’t begin on Monday and end on Friday. For decades, millions of people across the world have built their week around Monday through Friday. However, as the pandemic continues to change Americans’ attitudes toward work, many are reconsidering how they may balance work and life.

After all of this research, I discovered that the concept of a five-day workweek was first proposed as early as the 1860s by many labor organizations in the United States seeking to pass legislation for an eight-hour working day. The Fair Labor Standards Act was amended in 1938 to limit the workweek to 40 hours per week, which resulted in the Monday through Friday, five-day work week that is well known today, according to Business Insider.

Despite the passage of this law, many individuals are still compelled to work more than 40 hours per week. According to a Gallup poll conducted in 2014, the typical salaried employee put in around 49 hours each week. Furthermore, according to Vox, workers are still clocking more than 40 hours per week even during the COVID-19 epidemic. Many people feel that achieving a work-life balance is difficult because they are either working from home or doing a hybrid arrangement that includes both in-office and at-home work.

A four-hour workweek might be in your future

In the previous decade, businesses and nations all over the world have started to reconsider the five-day workweek. More than 2,500 Icelandic employees were involved in a research in 2015 and 2019 that introduced them to a four-day workweek rather than the usual five-day week. The study’s findings suggested that those who took part in it reported feeling less stress and a better work-life balance, while their employers claimed that their productivity remained the same or improved. Many other countries around the world, such as New Zealand, Singapore, and Spain, subsequently looked into mandating a four-day workweek as a result of these studies. According to The Guardian, several American businesses, including Bolt Electric and Panasonic Electronics, are already adopting the four-day workweek. Microsoft, which offers a four-day workweek for its workers in Japan, states that the four-day workweek has boosted output by 40%.

Although many individuals tout the advantages of switching to a four-day week in place of a five-day one, the United States government has yet to push through any legislation establishing such a schedule in the country. But this may soon change, as more effort is put into protecting employee rights. The Great Resignation, which has seen millions of Americans leave their jobs in the past year, and the current movement for worker rights that has necessitated wage increases in many states have the potential to push forward further workplace reform in the near future, according to Vox.
