The question of whether Firefly will debut next year in the fall or summer has been definitively resolved.
The Woodlands of Dover has been selected as the site for Firefly’s 10th anniversary, which will take place September 22-25, 2022.
The first time in Firefly history that the event was reschedules from June to September and is to take place next year. The epidemic, which caused the cancellation of 2020’s edition, was to blame for this oddity.
Fans on the official Facebook page (263,000 members) and the Firefly Music Festival Fan Page (21,000 members) have mixed feelings about the event taking place in the fall.
“i know summer festivals are COOOOOOOOOL…but having a more pleasant environment because of the cooler temperatures was fantastic as someone who HATES the heat,” one festivalgoer remarked.
Another Firefly enthusiast said, “September makes it difficult for me since I’m in grad school, therefore I doubt I’ll be able to go again. But I’m delighted for all of you who will have the time of your lives!!!”
“The cold dew in the night killed me! I swear there was a layer of it on my blankets at night, and I barely slept.” — One dissatisfied fan
“But now we know the consequences, and we have the time to prepare!!” An optimistic partygoer yelled. The weather was one of the most obvious distinctions between moving Firefly to fall and summer. It got really chilly at night.
The event was still treated as if it were taking place in June, with a variety of people wearing summerwear like booty shorts, crop tops, and Hawaiian shirts. However, others wore jackets and sweatshirts at night.
On the first day of the ‘Firefly’ festival, which was also opening day, Thursday, there was rain that delayed the event for four hours. Some tents were inundated. And the chilly weather didn’t help matters.
The festival grounds were a muddy mess on the first night, which was also Billie Eilish’s scheduled performance as headliner. At the time, she was a fresh face in American music. Other headline acts at Firefly included The Killers, Tame Impala, and Lizzo. Megan Thee Stallion, Cage the Elephant, Roddy Ricch, Wiz Khalifa, Diplo, Glass Animals, Machine Gun Kelly and Portugal were among the other big names.
The solitary Delaware band EyeBawl, which did not perform Thursday owing to the rain, benefitted from the weather.
On Sunday, EyeBawl was promoted to the main Firefly stage, making them the first Delaware band to do so in Firefly’s history.
On Friday, Sunday, and Monday, there was no rain; and the muck situation improved dramatically after opening day.
Since the beginning of the epidemic in 2021, state authorities announced in the spring that organizers were considering reducing capacity to 50,000 people. Firefly has consistently drawn over 90,000 individuals each year since 2015, when Paul McCartney was a headliner.
Guests were asked to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test in order to attend Firefly this year.
The Firefly 2022 lineup has not yet been released.
The upcoming festival should be exciting, since it is the 10th anniversary of Firefly in The Woodlands, which has hosted well-known artists such as Twenty One Pilots, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Halsey, the Foo Fighters, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, The 1975, Deadma5 and Outkast.
It’s uncertain whether any of those events will repeat themselves in 2022.
But one thing is for certain: a certain band has already played Firefly numerous times, including headlining the inaugural event in 2012.
Many Firefly fans on Facebook vowed not to be upset if this group isn’t chosen again next year.
Who do you think will headline Firefly 2022?
