Cardi B has signed a worldwide co-publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music, which made her the first woman to have an international publishing deal worth more than $1 million.
The agreement covers future works as well as current releases, including her most recent collaboration with Warner Chappell songwriter and fellow Atlantic recording artist Lizzo, Rumors, which rose to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.
Cardi B was the first woman to have five Top 10 singles on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart in a single week, as well as the first female rapper to have five No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.
In 2015, she released her debut single, Shaggy’s rework of Boom Boom, with Jamaican dancehall singer Popcaan.
She released her first full-length project, a mixtape titled Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 1., A year later, followed by Gangsta Bitch Music, Vol. 2. in 2017.
Cardi was recognized twice at the BET Awards: as Best New Artist and Best Female Hip-hop Artist. She subsequently signed with Atlantic Records and debuted her debut commercial single, Bodak Yellow, in the same year.
The song reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and Cardi B went on to become the first woman rapper to receive an RIAA diamond single certification.
After that, a slew of chart toppers included G-Eazy’s No Limit and Ozuna’s La Modelo. Cardi teamed up with Bruno Mars on his remix song Finesse, which rose to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and dominated charts across the world after it was released with 21 Savage.
Cardi B’s first studio album, Invasion of Privacy, was released in the spring of 2018. It features contributions from Migos, Chance the Rapper, Kehlani, SZA, Bad Bunny, and J Balvin.
Cardi B is the first woman to have all 13 tracks on her debut album certified RIAA platinum or higher, which has helped it to peak at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and win Best Rap Album at this year’s Grammy Awards.
Since then, Invasion of Privacy has been the first album by a woman rapper to stay on the Billboard 200 for 175 weeks.
In 2018, Cardi B was featured on Jennifer Lopez’s Dinero and Maroon 5’s Grammy-nominated Girls Like You. She was also nominated for a Grammy in 2019 for her work with Offset, Clout, for Best Rap Performance.
In 2020, Cardi unveiled WAP (feat. Megan Thee Stallion), which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for several weeks. The song broke several records, including the greatest-streaming first week by a female or male artist and the most first-week streams for any song in 2020. It also became one of the all-time top three hip-hop streaming debuts.
